Different types of Bariatric Surgeries to treat ob

Out of the many chronic disorders counted as a key player towards maximum number of deaths across the globe, obesity is a leading one. Obesity, referred to as a wide range of health complications caused to being overweight to morbidly obese, has been on the rise in India at an consistent rate. The percentage of overweight and obese population rose from 9 percent to 11 percent within 1980 to 2008. The number is known to have tripled from 250 million to 904 million in the developing countries.

To curb the epidemic of obesity and obesity related complications, there are many weight loss surgeries, which are collectively referred to as Bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery involves different types of treatment method that are commonly used as ways of obesity treatment in India.

Some of the weight loss surgical treatment methods include:

a. Intragastric Balloon (this is a non-surgical method of treating obesity wherein a soft balloon is placed inside the stomach via endoscopy and reduces the capacity of the stomach to give a feeling of fullness)

b. Laparoscopic Gastric Banding(this is the least invasive of all the procedures in bariatric surgery; an adjustable silicon band is tied around the stomach in order to create a small stomach to fill in small amount of food to satisfy the patient)

c. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (this type of procedure involves stapling of 2/3 of the stomach which results in reduced sized stomach, that of a size and shape of banana or a sleeve; this procedure is comparatively simpler than the gastric bypass)

d. Laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric Bypass (this is a combined restrictive/malabsorptive type weight loss procedure wherein stapling is used to create a small, upper stomach pouch leading to early satisfaction with small meals and a large part of stomach and small intestine is bypassed to allow mixing of food and digestive juices easily)

e. Laparoscopic approach to weight loss surgery(this type of surgery involves insertion of a camera into the abdomen that allows the surgeon to conduct and view the surgery on a video monitor; the laparoscopic procedures for weight loss surgery use the same rules as the ones used for open surgeries for weigh loss)

f. Liposuction (a cosmetic surgery with a focus on getting rid of the stubborn fatty deposits; to remove the small bulges to improve the body's shape and is most commonly done on abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs and face)

g. Tummy Tuck (a cosmetic procedure that has been designed to make the abdomen flatten with removal of excess skin and fat and tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall, meizitang reviews, ultimately effectively reducing the appearance of a protruding abdomen)

h. Gastric Imbrication (a laparoscopic procedure which is comparatively less invasive and shorter than sleeve and bypass surgeries and reduces the capacity of the stomach to 100-150 ml, making the patient feel satiety with even a small meal)
